I've been making this art since I was 15. My influence is probably from looking at so many contour maps and planning off-trail backpacking routes! Ephemeral Beach Art Mosaics

In 2013, I wanted to see the sea. I had not been to the ocean in 3 years since I moved from Hawaii. So, I biked to the coast. It was sunset (3 weeks later) when I arrived, and I gathered stones and seaweed and made mosaics in the sand... Down the beach, I walked, collecting, pausing, creating. After some time, I saw fellow beach goers following my gallery of Ephemeral Beach Art, as the tide lapped higher on the shore. After sunset faded to night, while I was cozy, drifting off in my tent, the waves lapped up my creations, and they drifted out to sea. Now I pine for my next visit to a the sea, and I seek beaches with stones and shells and driftwood.

Passion Paintings

What are 'Passion Paintings?' Sometimes I do a painting in a few minutes. I squirt paint on a canvas or use up leftover paint from another painting. I use my hand prints or other objects to create texture, and it all happens very quickly, accessing emotions instead of logic. When I do this, I 'see' the piece only after it is done. I 'feel' it while I am creating it. I can't always be in this zone, but when I am, it is a meditative experience of both passion and 'emptiness.' My first of these is the painting on the bottom left, which reminds me of the 'Origin Story' of people coming from earth's mud, a story I heard in Xishuangbanna, China, where I lived during a meaningful time in my life.

Watercolours

Since my bike tour in New Zealand was six months, I couldn't possibly leave my paints behind! I brought water colours with me, and here are the nine paintings I did on that trip! I spent more than six hours with the seal below (who was with me while I created my largest-ever Ephemeral Beach Art piece), four hours with the penguin pair, and four seconds with the New Zealand Wood Pidgion. The sea Arch is in Wharariki; the mountain with the purple sky is on the Old Ghost Road; and the gal on the 'dinosaur egg' is me at Moeraki Boulders!
